AcademicPub Launches AcademicPub Co-Op, A Scalable Repository of "Best-Of" Course Materials Across All Disciplines

Disruptive New Platform Allows Institutions to Retain and Leverage Intellectual Capital

New York, NY, September 19, 2012 – AcademicPub™, the leading provider of custom course packs – print and digital – for the higher education market, today launched AcademicPub Co-Op™, introducing AcademicPub users to scalable content repositories within institutions and across disciplines, featuring course materials produced and contributed by faculty members. The announcement was made by Caroline Vanderlip, CEO of AcademicPub parent SharedBook Inc.

“AcademicPub Co-Op encourages professors to both submit course materials to – and peruse materials selected by – peers in their discipline, allowing universities to build and retain intellectual capital in a meaningful way,” said Vanderlip. “This greater choice for educators will lead to more focused, quality content at lower cost for students.”

A growing number of faculty members are already creating custom course packs through AcademicPub. The new AcademicPub Co-Op allows professors to display and present their books to peers, primarily for the benefit of others at their institution, but also for instructors at schools worldwide. Faculty members in all disciplines can see what peers are offering students, and in effect can benefit from the collective expertise of the AcademicPub community of scholars and faculty members.

“AcademicPub Co-Op allows the professor who is searching for “best of” content for his course to see what a peer in that discipline has already created, and enable a seamless, copyright-cleared adoption of that material, either in whole or in part,” explained Vanderlip. “For instance, a self-published, starter book could be created by one professor and then adopted or iterated by others.”

Vanderlip added that institutions also benefit from AcademicPub Co-Op, as it will enable the creation of an archive of current course materials and help to empower department heads actively looking for alternate textbook options.

An AcademicPub Co-Op webinar will be held on September 24, 2012 from 2PM – 3PM EDT.
